In the description of the IONS Telecourse, "Death Makes Life Possible: Mapping Worldviews on the Afterlife," it says: "Humans have always been fascinated by the possibility of a 'larger reality' that lies beyond death. Throughout history and in every culture, people have created models and practices for understanding death and they have developed cosmologies for engaging with the afterlife. As each of us confront issues of mortality--our own or others--we may sense that there is more to our existence, more layers or dimentions than we usually comprehend as we go about our daily lives." (http://www.noetic.org/education/telecourse/dmlp-course/) Our Stewardship Team members will be giving short presentations chosen from IONS online resources, "Death, Dying and Beyond": http://noetic.org/topics/death-dying/ Hope you might visit those web pages and bring your thoughts and insights. ************************************************************************************** |

Topic: Worldview Literacy Project Date: Monday, October 22nd Place: Greenwood Library 8016 Greenwood Ave. N., Seattle Metro Bus Rt: 5, 35, 48 Time: 6:00-8:00pm (Join us for social time at 5:30pm) Admission: Free The Worldview Literacy Project is an educational initiative that has grown out of four decades of research by the Institute of Noetic Sciences. Their research suggests the most powerful step people can take toward achieving their highest potential is the willingness and ability to understand new perspectives. How can we learn to know ourselves and to appreciate others when faced with an increasing diversity of perspectives and worldviews? What will help people thrive in a multicultural society with numerous, sometimes dramatically different, beliefs, values, and traditions? What will help us communicate and work together to create personal fulfillment, healthy relationships, and conscious leadership? We'll explore these questions and share the learnings from the IONS most recent telecourse, Foundations of Worldview Literacy. "Right now we are living through one of the most fundamental shifts in history--a change in the actual belief structure of Western industrial society. Global Mind Change, first published in 1988, connects every major field of human endeavor in its exploration of the possibilities for social transfromation through internal change. " (from IONS Website) We will discuss consciousness as causal reality, the new paradigm in science, importance of transpersonal, and how they relate to systemic global change. Reading the book is not required to join our discussion, but if you have read the book, please come and share your thoughts. If you are new to IONS, you will learn what IONS is all about by the end of the evening. *************************************************************** Please bring some snacks to share.
