At our gathering this month, we have a special screening of a documentary, “Humanity Ascending: A New Way Through Together”  (40 min) hosted and produced by Barbara Marx Hubbard. A discussion will follow.

Barbara Marx Hubbard has been a pioneer in positive options for the future of humanity for forty years. A public speaker, author, futurirst and social innovator, she is president and executive director of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution.

She posits that evolutionary forces characterized by intensified social and technological creativity, deepening spirituality and environmental awareness are collaborating to create global change: a change with greater magnitude than the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution. Many people regard her as an heir to Buckminster Fuller.

She has been instrumental in the founding of many future-oriented organizations, including the World Future Society, New Dimensions Radio, Global Family, Women of Vision In Action, The Foundation for the Future, and the Association for Global New Thought.

In 1984 her name was placed in nomination for the vice-presidency of the United States on the Democratic ticket. She proposed a Peace Room in the White House and throughout the world, to scan for, map, connect, and communicate what is working.

Our February gathering will feature a very special guest, Dr. Fredric Lehrman. His book, The Sacred Landscape, considered to be a classic of its type, was the gift that IONS sent to all its new premier members in 1989.

Dr. Lehrman has taught and lectured all over the world, and has led seminars with a number of visionaries whom IONS has introduced over the years, including Rupert Sheldrake, Peter Russell, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Hazel Henderson, Marilyn Ferguson and others.

The topics of his teachings span a wide range of conventional and unconventional subjects, including: Leadership without Domination, Life as Art, Rebirthing, Tai Chi in Everyday Life, Nomadic Education, Remembering the Future, Surfing the Economic Tsunami, Pataphysics, Physical Immortality, Reclaiming Personal Power, The Future of Relationships, The Secrets of Music, Dragon Farming, Business Psychology in a Modern World, and many others.

At this gathering, instead of focusing on one topic, we are going to ask participants at the beginning to choose the areas they find most relevant and/or intriguing. Dr. Lehrman will weave these topics into a noetic landscape and lead us on an unpredictable–and fascinating–magic carpet ride.

IONS’ mission is “advancing the science of consciousness and human experience to serve individual and collective transformation.” When we speak of “individual and collective transformation,” asking the question of “Who am I?” is most fundamental and essential. How do you answer this question? What exactly is this question asking? How do you describe yourself when you meet someone new? The question, “Who am I?” is an age-old one, but at this time—the time of a major Shift––it has special significance.

We have just witnessed a historical presidential election. A major shift is in the air. We all have a part to play–it's not just one man–as we face these big challenges of our time.

One of the possible approaches to the Shift is Permaculture. IONS recently presented a tele-seminar with Catherine Austin Fitts called “Financial Permaculture.” Permaculture trains:
“individuals in a core set of design principles, those individuals could design their own environments and build increasingly self-sufficient human settlements — ones that reduce society's reliance on industrial systems of production and distribution that … [are] fundamentally and systematically destroying the Earth's ecosystems.” (from Wikipedia)

Please come join us as we learn about the concept of permaculture and as explore how we could apply it to transform our environment and the way we live.

Former IONS Vice Chair, Lynne Twist writes, “redesigning our relationship with money will be the key that transforms the condition of life, both physical and spiritual, for all of us in the twenty-first century.” At our gathering, we will explore personal, social and spiritual aspects of money, including topics such as the disparity between rich and poor, the notion of scarcity vs sufficiency, alternative currencies, etc. We will also share personal life stories around money, how money shaped us.
