What is the relationship between art and spirit? How do artists relate to the spirit world? Is a creative process essentially a spiritual process? What are noetic approaches to this rather wide topic? This month we will be exploring these and other inquiries with a special guest, Robbi Firestone, a "spirit capture" portrait artist from Tacoma. She writes:
‘How does the world see God? How can paintings be prayers or meditations?’ Authentic, loving communities around the globe welcome me as I explore, looking for connection to the Divine in all cultures. With a rich life full of powerful, unusual experiences, my art can emerges with divine grace and ease.
Come join us and share your thoughts and inspirations.

Topic: The Global Brain Date: Thursday, February 25th Place: Broadview Library, 12755 Greenwood Ave. N. Metro Bus Rt: 5, 345, 355 Time: 6:00-7:45pm Admission: Free
Peter Russell writes in his book, The Global Brain Awakens (1995):
"...we could now be living through the most dramatic and crucial period of human history: the progressive integration of human minds into a single living system--a global brain."
"And humanity's search for knowledge could be Gaia's way of knowing more about herself and the universe in which she lives."
Is the planet Earth a living organism? Is human the race a nervous system of Gaia or more like cancer cells? Is social networking, such as Facebook and Twitter, part of the evolution of the global brain? What is the relationship between collective consciousness and Pure Self?
In this second gathering of Indra's Rainbow this year, we'll be introducing Peter Russell's work and exploring questions such as those. You do not need to have read Peter Russell's books to participate. Please feel free to bring other books relating to this topic and share your thoughts.

At our first gathering of the new year, we'll be exploring the concept of Transformation. The mission of IONS is "advancing the science of consciousness and human experience to serve individual and collective transformation." What does "transformation" mean to you? Have you had an experience of major transformation in your life? What does collective transformation look like? How do we bring about collective transformation?
The book, Living Deeply: The Art and Science of Transformation in Everyday Life by Marilyn Schlitz, Cassandra Vieten and Tina Amorok, is based on a decade-long research program at IONS. We'll be using this book as part of our discussion. Please bring other books you feel could be helpful for our dialogue.

Topic: Co-Creating IONS Local Community Date: Monday, Nov. 30th Place: Greenwood Library, 8016 Greenwood Ave. N., Seattle Metro Bus Rt: 5, 48, 355 Time: 6:00-7:45pm Discussion will continue at a near-by coffee shop Admission: Free
In its website, the vision of IONS is described as:
"At the Institute of Noetic Sciences, we employ the rigor of science, balanced by personal and collective wisdom, to support a shift in consciousness that transforms present global conditions into a world grounded in freedom, wisdom, and love. We serve an emerging movement of globally conscious citizens dedicated to manifesting our highest capacities."
As a local community group of IONS, we are interested in building a local IONS community, but what does it exactly mean? What does an IONS community look like? How could our IONS local community contribute and play a role in this region? How could we collaborate with other like-minded organizations?
If you are a member of IONS, we would very much like your input for how we could serve you. If you've been curious about IONS, this is a great opportunity to meet other like-minded people and find out about what IONS is all about. Please come and help us co-create a Seattle IONS Community. |

At our gathering this month, we have a special screening of "Crossing the Event Horizon: A Symposium with Scientist Nassim Haramein." Nassim's presentation at the IONS Conference in 2005 created a buzz among the participants; some consider him as next Einstein. IONS' Shift in Action introduces him:
"Nassim's investigation of the geometry of hyperspace combines quantum physics and cosmological understandings of universal forces with a new solution to Einstein field equations, unifying physics and integrating other sciences into a cohesive whole. Haramein's solution resulted from studies of ancient codes left in monuments and documents around the world, and may lead to some of the most important discoveries in written history." Come join us for this amazing, jaw-dropping viewing of the DVD, followed by conversation. Please BYO Mug. Riding bus, bicycle, carpool are encouraged, as always.
